Moths of the West Midlands is the first-ever book covering all of the macro moths in this region (over 600 species) and many of the micro moths regularly recorded in Birmingham and the Black Country, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. The book is lavishly illustrated with over 700 photographs, from local photographers wherever possible, and also includes up-to-date distribution maps, habitat information, adult flight periods and larval food plants. In addition to the species pages there are also chapters dealing with the special moths of the area and the top places to look for moths – “hot spots”. Other sections cover attracting moths, gardening for moths and recording techniques.

This major new title has been produced by members of the West Midlands branch of the national charity Butterfly Conservation. The publishers from the sale of the book will be used to help conserve moths and butterflies in the West Midlands. Ian Duncan, project manager for the book, said “Our aim is to produce a companion volume to the hugely successful Butterflies of the West Midlands. It will appeal to enthusiasts of all levels but particularly to beginners keen to get involved in this fascinating subject.”
