Baines’ 1840 Flora of Yorkshire bound together with Baker & Nowell’s 1854 A Supplement to Baines’ Flora of Yorkshire in a contemporary 3/4 leather binding with gilt spine titles on red leather label, 5 spine bands, profusely gilt stamped decoration to spine and marbled boards, endpapers and textblock edges. Boards rubbed with wear to extremities.Both boards’ hinges and joints split to bottom 50% so a little fragile. The contents remain very crisp and bright, with almost no age toning and just a little foxing. There are occasional notes in pencil and ink, otherwise very clean. A small number of leaves we incorrectly trimmed, extending beyond the rest of the textblock; these have mostly been folded inside however one (the final index leaf of the flora) remains proud and its blank verso has been used for not taking in an elegant hand. Two map plates to the flora and a single colour map plate to the supplement, as issued, all in excellent condition.
