The definitive, fully illustrated field guide to the wildflowers of Arizona and where to find them. The mountain and desert terrains of Arizona are frequently abloom with beautiful, distinctive wildflowers in reds, golds, pinks, and blues—some of which can be found nowhere else! Written by a renowned expert on Western wildflowers, this color-coded compendium is a fun, engaging, and authoritative guide to the state’s wildflowers. Laird Blackwell’s The Arizona Wildflower Companion combines a comprehensive field guide with playful limericks to help you remember the nearly 300 flowering species that can be found in the Grand Canyon State. Scientific and common descriptions, straightforward discussion of their characteristics, and stunning photos make this an essential take-along for any Arizona hike. More than just a field guide, The Arizona Wildflower Companion is also a location guide, with descriptions of hikes and trails where you can find flowers in their most advantageous locations, as well as notes on altitude and the best times of the day, month, and year to see spectacular wildflowers.

“Laird Blackwell has walked far and wide in search of wildflowers in Arizona, a state where plants can stab, poke, and claw unwary travelers. He gets on his hands and knees, looks up at the overstory, and surveys the literature to give us a thorough report.” - Ron Dungan, Arizona Republic outdoors columnist and author of The Worst Fishing Dog Ever: And Other Essays “This book provides a unique way to learn about and identify the diverse wildflowers of Arizona with range maps, suggestions for specific trails in season, and poems to help you remember the attributes.” - Sirena Rana, author of Best Day Hikes on the Arizona National Scenic Trail
