Cup Fungi and other ascomycetes of Britain & Europe: an introductory guide

Ascomycetes form the largest group of fungi in the world, with current estimates indicating over 90,000 species and suggestions that with many species not yet being identified there could be in the region of 2 million. They are also known as ‘sac fungi’ because characteristically they produce sexual spores (ascospores) inside microscopic, sac-like structures called asci. They occur in a multitude of shapes, colours, and sizes and are to be found in almost every possible habitat. Members of the group include yeasts, moulds, truffles, and cup fungi.

This introductory guide illustrates over 260 of the commonest, most striking or intriguing species found in Britain and Europe.

Written and illustrated by the author, Cup Fungi and other ascomycetes of Britain & Europe: an introductory guide, follows the format used in Geoffrey’s series of books on Mushrooms and Toadstools of Britain & Europe.
