Climate change is considered one of the most important factors affecting food production and food security. Excessive heat and carbon pollution mean more floods and droughts, making it harder and harder for growers to be productive. It is a massive challenge worldwide due to natural system manipulations such as deforestation, industrialization, and urban lifestyle at the cost of greenhouse gasses (GHG) emission. New strategies are urgently needed to reduce the impact of climate change on agriculture. This can be done with multi-pronged approaches that (i) incorporate climate-smart farming methodologies, (ii) help in recovering methane from biogas created when manure decomposes, (iii) reduce runoff and strategically apply fertilizers, (iv) boost crop resistance by adopt research-proven ways to minimize pesticide use and improve pollination, and (v) prevent food waste. Together, this two-volume work focuses on climate-smart agriculture that utilizes cutting edge strategies to transform and reorient our food production systems under the new realities and threats of climate change. This critical review also identifies obsolete agricultural practices, and promotes incremental changes in sustainable agricultural practices.
