This work offers a compilation of the most fascinating unusual and entertaining material from “The Countryman” magazine’s long and prestigious history. Celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2007, the magazine has always reflected what is happening in the countryside – the good and the bad, the nostalgic and the current – and embraced a wide range of social strata and attitudes. With contributions from J.B. Priestley (author), Spike Milligan (comic/author), Robin Page (columnist and broadcaster) and many others, “Words from the Countryman” is a wonderful source of social history, containing everything from hard fact to quirkiness and wry humour.
