“Towards a Handlist of Microfungal Parasites of Vascular Plants from Britain and Ireland and a Census Catalogue for Wales” is the latest in an award-winning series of books on phytoparasitic fungi written by the Welsh Microfungi Group.
To assist in their discovery and recording, the authors have presented the documented records of parasitic fungus and fungus-like organisms and their native, naturalized and cultivated vascular plant host taxa for the whole of Britain and Ireland by country, and by Watsonian Vice-counties for Wales. The records are arranged in two alphabetical series, one by host and one by parasitic organism.
Represented in the tables are over 1300 parasitic taxa recorded from over 2400 host taxa in over 6100 combinations. The major groups of parasites covered are the Rusts, Smuts, White Moulds, White Blister-rusts, Downy and Powdery Mildews, Leaf Curls and Witches Brooms.
The Handlist is PUR-bound, has a laminated cover, and unlike the previous volumes in the series is in A5 format and thus designed to be practical for use in the field.
The publication has been produced to encourage and stimulate more interest and recording of these plant parasites.
If you take up an interest in the organisms covered in this handlist you stand a good chance of having the satisfaction of finding new host-parasite relationships, new Vice-county records for Wales and even species new to Britain.
