Sixteen Acres: The Life of an Apple Orchard

In a small corner of Essex lie the fields of a sixteen-acre apple orchard. Over the course of a year, Hana walks the land with Andrew, the orchard’s keeper. She listens as he unspools its history. Learns the difference between White Transparent and Beauty of Bath. Absorbs the lessons that Andrew draws from the earth, tree and fruit. As the seasons change, each month brings new knowledge. Hana comes to see how, over his lifetime and the life of the orchard, Andrew has continuously been in conversation with this land – how he has listened to it and responded, and how the apple trees respond to him in kind. Just as the orchard nurtures, it also teaches, becoming a living lesson in what matters, how to live, and what it means to truly know a place deep in your bones.
