GABA-A/Benzodiazepine Receptor as a Target for Psychoactive Drugs

This work traces the development of molecular mechanisms of action of benzodiazepines and demonstrates the potential of basic research in the development of improved therapies in psychiatry. The aim is to provide an explanation of the mechanism of action of a commonly used group of psychoactive drugs, to explore future opportunities for the development of new psychotropic drugs and to provide an overview of the pharmacology of an important group of drugs to non-specialist audiences.
