Flora of the Maritimes Alps and the Principality of Monaco – originality and diversity.
This handsome work has been produced by Naturalia Publications in collaboration with the Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen de Porquerolles, and is the result of the efforts of a team of botanists, photographers and artists, under the direction of Virgil Noble and Katia Diadema of the Conservatoire Porquerolles.

The department of Alpes-Maritimes lying as it does between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea has a great variety of different landscapes. These contribute to the region having one of the richest floras in France – more than 3800 taxa and with many endemic species.
The first part of the book provides background details on the flora and history of botanising in the area as well as biogeographical and ecological considerations.
The main part of the book covers 240 selected species, endemic or less common, generally with a two page entry, that includes scientific name and common synonyms, description, distribution, ecology, conservation and threats. Each account is accompanied by an accurate map of the distribution within the department and for endemics the distribution over it’s range both within and beyond the immediate department. There are illustrations of the plant and its environment (photographs and original watercolors of whole plant specimens including roots).
There is an extensive bibliography and an index to species.
Hardback.
500 pages, 473 color photographs, 41 watercolors, 254 histograms, 377 maps, 5 tables.
