This book presents a comprehensive overview of the development, deployment, and future potential of biosensors in addressing diverse environmental challenges. It is structured into three dedicated sections, each addressing one environmental domain in depth. The water pollution section focuses on biosensors for detecting heavy metals, pesticides, microbial contaminants, and toxins in drinking water, wastewater, and natural water bodies, alongside transduction mechanisms and biorecognition elements for aquatic environments. The soil pollution section highlights biosensors designed for real-time detection of agrochemicals, persistent organic pollutants, toxic metals, and nutrient imbalances, alongside tools for assessing soil fertility, rhizosphere interactions, and precision agriculture applications. The air pollution section explores cutting-edge platforms for monitoring airborne particulates, volatile organic compounds, toxic industrial gases, bioaerosols, and indoor air quality, with emphasis on wearable, portable, and drone-assisted sensing devices. Across all sections, this book covers the application of advanced nanostructured materials, biorecognition elements, and signal transduction mechanisms. It also examines field-deployable and networked monitoring approaches, enabling scalable and intelligent environmental monitoring systems. This book is an invaluable resource for researchers, engineers, and environmental scientists dedicated to protecting and managing environmental health through modern sensing solutions.
