Quarto sized reprint of the 1890 illustrated 11th edition bound in green cloth boards with both the spine titles and an image of Patagonian bolas (a native hunting weapon) in gilt, and to the centre of the front board a gilt stamped circular emblem surrounding the intertwined initials CD surrounded by a border of fish; binding lightly marked with light bumping to the top and bottom of the spine only. Contents remain fairly crisp and clean and very bright, with just the occasional light crease or thumb mark. A light sprinkling of foxing affects only the endpapers and the first 30 leaves. 2 folding maps at rear in excellent condition. 1923 inscription to FFEP. Overall a lovely and unusual copy of the illustrated edition.
