This book presents a comprehensive and forward-looking resource on fish health and disease management, addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing modern aquaculture. Integrating fundamental biology with emerging technologies and sustainable management strategies, it provides readers with the scientific knowledge and practical approaches needed to improve fish health, enhance production efficiency, and reduce disease-related losses. Emphasizing environmentally responsible solutions, the volume supports the transition toward resilient and sustainable aquaculture systems. The book explores the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions, innate immunity, and the epidemiology, diagnosis, and control of major bacterial, viral, fungal, oomycete, and parasitic diseases affecting cultured fish. It further examines the influence of climate change, environmental and chemical stressors, antimicrobial resistance, nutrition, feed quality, gut microbiota, probiotics, vaccines, natural therapeutics, phage therapy, selective breeding, digital diagnostics, artificial intelligence, and One Health approaches. By combining established knowledge with recent advances, it offers an integrated perspective on disease prevention, surveillance, and health management in aquaculture. Designed for researchers, aquaculture scientists, veterinarians, fish health professionals, graduate students, industry practitioners, and policymakers, this book serves as an authoritative reference for understanding current challenges and implementing innovative, science-based solutions. It provides valuable insights for advancing sustainable aquaculture, strengthening aquatic animal health, and supporting global food security.

Author Biography

Dr. Arup Mistri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at The University of Burdwan, West Bengal, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Zoology from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. His research interests encompass fish biology, aquatic toxicology, fish diseases, wound healing, and aquaculture health management, with a strong emphasis on developing sustainable and eco-friendly strategies for disease prevention, health management, and productivity enhancement in aquaculture. His current research focuses on the pathobiology and management of bacterial diseases affecting Indian major carps, the application of plant-derived bioactive compounds and phytotherapeutics for disease control, and the impacts of emerging aquatic pollutants on fish health and aquatic ecosystem integrity. Additionally, his research explores the physiological mechanisms of wound healing in fish and the potential of plant-based compounds to accelerate tissue repair. His research integrates fundamental and applied aspects of aquatic animal health, aiming to develop innovative, environmentally sustainable solutions for improving fish welfare, disease resistance, and aquaculture production.  His long-term research vision is to advance sustainable aquaculture through the integration of fish immunology, natural therapeutics, and environmental health sciences. Dr. Nidhi Srivastava is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences at Maharaja Agrasen University, Himachal Pradesh, India. Driven by her passion for scientific exploration, she pursued her Ph.D. from prestigious Banaras Hindu University at Varanasi, India. To enhance her research skills, Dr. Srivastava continued her academic journey with a postdoctoral position at the University of Delhi, India.                      Her primary research focus lies in uncovering the complex mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis. She also uses fish models to investigate immune responses during infection, the effects of environmental contaminants on fish health, and the therapeutic potential of natural bioactive compounds. Using integrated experimental and computational approaches, her research supports the development of safer and more effective strategies for fish health protection and disease control.
