The Himalaya, a global biodiversity hotspot, faces profound threats from climate change, altering plant distributions, microbial communities, and ecosystem services vital for millions. This edited volume explores these shifts through expert insights on medicinal plant conservation, invasive species dynamics, and microbial functionality. Chapters reveal how warming disrupts phenology, phytochemistry, and soil health, while offering strategies like indigenous knowledge and biotechnological tools for resilience. Targeting ecologists, policymakers, and conservation practitioners, the book emphasizes the Himalayan region’s unique vulnerability—home to rare flora and carbon-rich soils—and calls for integrated action to safeguard livelihoods and ecological balance. With practical policy recommendations, it bridges science and sustainability, urging adaptive measures to combat biodiversity loss in this fragile mountain arc.

Dr Prabhakar Semwal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Graphic Era (Deemed to be) University, Dehradun, India. Prior to this, he served at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology, India for five years. His research examines plant-pollinator interactions, reproductive biology, phytochemistry, and health benefits of Himalayan botanicals. He has published over 50 articles in journals such as Food Chemistry, Phytomedicine, and Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition.Dr Durgesh Kumar Jaiswal is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Biosciences at Graphic Era (Deemed to be) University, Dehradun, India. He holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Banaras Hindu University, India (2019) and completed a Dr D.S. Kothari postdoctoral fellowship at Savitribai Phule Pune University, India (2023). His research focuses on agro-microbial biotechnology, including microbial consortia for plant probiotics, crop improvement, pesticide degradation, stress management, and biotoxicity assessments of agro-chemicals on soil microbiomes and crops.Dr Vishal Tripathi has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Graphic Era (Deemed to be) University, Dehradun, India, since December 2022. He earned his PhD in Plant Biotechnology from Banaras Hindu University (2019) and is the recipient of the Green Talents Award from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Germany (2018). His research centers on plant-microbe interactions, bioremediation of pesticides, phytoremediation, and microbial functional diversity under warming climates in Himalayan soils. He has authored 35 SCI (Science Citation Index)-indexed publications (2244 citations, h-index 24, i10-index 34).
