Mediterranean Plants – from the Albères to the Riviera

Benefiting from the mild winters, Mediterranean flora comes to life in early spring, offering botanists a spectacle of rare intensity. This is why the South of France is so popular with naturalists, who come from all over Europe every spring to discover this wealth of flowers. Mediterranean plants are also highly symbolic, often associated with intense scents, and the maquis and garrigues, with their aromatic plants such as rosemary, sage, thyme and lavender, are deeply rooted in people’s imagination.

Following the highly acclaimed publication of “Plantes de Montagne” in 2022, authors Franck Le Driant and Lionel Ferrus present Mediterranean plants in this new book. The format that made the first title such a success is repeated in this boo: a modern approach to botany based on high resolution photography with helpful guidance for difficult groups with keys, look alike species and photos illustrating important botanical details.

In all, it provides a comprehensive if not almost exhaustive presentation of the plants found in the Mediterranean region of continental France (1900 taxa), a rich and remarkably enhanced iconography, and practical information for species identification. All plant and nature lovers, beginner or expert alike, will appreciate this book, which will help them discover and identify the plants of the Midi.
