The Keys to the Kingdom is a unique, compelling combination of autobiography and science, written in non-technical language and illustrated with photographs and data. In a journey around the world it combines basic biological science with and commentary on applications to practical topics of loss and conservation biodiversity. I recommend it to anyone interested in natural history. James H. Brown, Distinguished Professor of Biology Emeritus. University of New Mexico In Keys, Ted Fleming takes us on a voyage to tropical and temperate lands on almost every continent with insights on the diversity, ecology, and evolution of his favorite species and ecosystems. In the final chapter he warns us about the inevitable fate of these kingdoms if humans cannot or will not reverse their destructive behavior. This is a volume to be read, studied, enjoyed, but most of all to be heeded by everyone who cares about nature. W. John Kress, Curator Emeritus and Distinguished Scientist, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. In Keys, Ted Fleming takes you along as a companion on his intrepid research career to far-flung biomes of the world ranging from deserts to rainforests. Along the way he unlocks some of the most fascinating evolutionary secrets of animals that will often leave your head shaking in amazement. Fleming’s ability to translate cutting-edge scientific discoveries into page-turner stories has yielded a journey through nature’s wonders not to be missed.
