The result of collaborative efforts from leading experts and researchers in the fields of nanotechnology, fisheries, and aquaculture, this new two-volume set, Nanotechnology in Fisheries and Aquaculture, serves as a valuable resource on harnessing the potential of nanotechnology in fisheries and aquaculture industries. Volume 1: Applications, Interventions, and Environmental Impact and Mitigation first presents an overview of the principles of nanotechnology and its potential benefits in enhancing productivity and sustainability in fisheries and aquaculture, and goes on to discuss the challenges and ethical considerations associated with the use of nanoparticles. It also delves into the specific applications of nanotechnology, including the use of nanoscale materials in aquafeed formulation to improve nutrient absorption and growth rates in fish, as well as the development of nanosensors for real-time monitoring of water quality and early detection of diseases in aquaculture facilities. Additionally, the book explores the use of nanoparticles in fish health management, including the delivery of therapeutic agents and vaccines. One of the key focuses of this volume is the examination of the potential risks associated with the release of nanoparticles into aquatic environments and strategies for mitigating these risks through responsible nanomaterial design and disposal practices. The book also highlights the role of nanotechnology in promoting sustainable practices. The economic and societal impacts of nanotechnology in mitigating the effects of climate change in aquatic ecosystem are also explored. Volume 2: Fish Nutrition, Health, Disease Diagnosis, Treatment, and Production builds upon the foundation laid in the first volume. It explores the advanced applications of nanotechnology in critical domains such as enhanced nutrition and nutrient delivery systems, functional feed additives, nanoscale disease diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions. By integrating nanotechnology, this volume highlights cutting-edge approaches to enhancing fish health, mitigating disease outbreaks, and boosting production efficiency while addressing environmental and sustainability concerns. It discusses nanovaccines and immunology in aquaculture, next generation nanomaterials in aquatic food packaging, and more. From improving aquaculture feed efficiency to reducing environmental impact, this valuable two-volume work reveals how nanotechnology offers innovative solutions to enhance the sustainability of these industries and ensure food security for future generations. Authored by leading researchers and experts who have explored the intersection of nanotechnology and aquatic sciences, the volumes offer valuable insights into the application of nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery, improved bioavailability of nutrients, innovative vaccine development, and precision disease monitoring.
