This updated and revised edition of the book “Lichens – a field guide” covers approximately 850 northern European species, of which just over 400 are illustrated and described in more detail. The book presents identification keys for most leaf and shrub lichens that occur in the Nordic region (approximately 600 species), as well as general descriptions of a selection of lichen orders and genera. The book’s 365 pages are richly illustrated with almost 1000 photographs, distribution maps and drawn illustrations. The introductory section addresses the structure of lichens, reproduction, ecology, distribution, their practical use, and tips and advice for collecting and studying lichens.
The first edition of “Lichens – a Field Manual”, the predecessor to this book, was published in 1982.
