Botanical Illustration.

The book aims to show how an understanding of botany combined with artistic skill lie behind successful plant portraiture. It builds on the work of illustrators of the past, ranging from Elizabeth Blackwell, whose drawings helped to release her husband from debtors’ prison, through to the exceptional scientific drawings of Beatrix Potter. Valerie Oxley is a well known for her plant illustrations and teaching skills, helping to develop the first Diploma in Botanical Illustration at the University of Sheffield, where plant drawing is taught alongside plant botany. The book is invaluable for beginners and skilled artists alike, and an excellent reference book for teachers.
