A Wildflower Year: A Guide to Wildflowers, their Habitats & Histories

Experience a year through 60 wildflowers, beautifully pressed, illustrated and described.

Throughout the year, Gardeners’ World presenter Frances Tophill has collected and documented 60 beautiful wildflowers. For each species, she eloquently describes its importance and unique features, as well as their habitat, when they can be found, and what other species you might expect to find nearby. She also explains whether they are edible and their possible medicinal uses.

Wildflowers have a crucial role to play in the fight to preserve our vital biodiversity, combat climate change and support pollinators. A Wildflower Year is both a month-by-month ode to wildflowers with illustrations by Julia McKenzie, and a useful tool for identifying and growing your own.

Frances Tophill is a Horticulturalist and Botanist who trained at The Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. Since 2012 she has been a presenter on ITV’s Love Your Garden, with Alan Titchmarsh. She also presents regularly on BBC Gardener’s World. She works closely with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and WWF, championing the importance of growing for us as individuals and as communities. She is the author of three books; First-Time GardenerThe Container GardenerRe-Wild Your Garden and, most recently, The Modern Gardener.
