This book examines the use of adsorbents in water and wastewater treatment and resource recovery processes. It discusses the removal of contaminants such as heavy metals, organic compounds, dyes, and pharmaceuticals, while exploring the performance and applications of a range of adsorbent materials, including activated carbon, zeolites, clay minerals, biochar, biopolymers, carbon-based nanomaterials, metal and metal oxides, and Mxene materials. The volume also addresses the role of adsorption technologies in resource recovery from wastewater streams, focusing on selective capture processes, waste reduction, and resource reuse and recycling. Through discussions of adsorption mechanisms, treatment approaches, and recovery strategies, the book highlights the environmental and industrial relevance of adsorbent-based systems. It serves as a reference for researchers, students, academicians, and policymakers working on wastewater treatment technologies and sustainable resource management.

Author Biography

Dr. Rakesh Kumar is a postdoctoral fellow in Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University, United States, and an emerging scholar in soil and water engineering, environmental hydrology, and climate-related water research. He received his PhD from Nalanda University, Rajgir, India, and his academic background also includes a degree in agricultural engineering from Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, India. His research interests focus on water and environmental pollution control, with particular attention to pollutant removal from wastewater, nutrient management, wastewater reuse and recycling, and resource recovery. He has also contributed to scholarship on microplastics, groundwater sustainability, and related environmental issues, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary profile.  Dr. Kumar has demonstrated editorial and scholarly leadership through his role as an Editorial Board Member. In addition, his experience as founder and chairman of a national-level environmental organization shows commitment to academic outreach, collaboration, and capacity building at AGU, GSA, and IWA. Overall, Dr. Kumar brings a combination of research expertise, editorial experience, and professional engagement, and is active in research networking and scientific communication. Dr. Pawan Kumar Rose is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Haryana. He completed his Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Technology (M.Tech.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Science and Engineering, laying a solid foundation for his career in teaching and research. With approximately 14 years of experience, he has made significant contributions to higher education through his dedication to teaching, mentoring students, and advancing scientific knowledge. His scholarly contributions include around 17 book chapters and 23 research and review articles published in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals. His research interests are centered on critical environmental issues, particularly emerging contaminants. He is also actively engaged in research on agricultural waste management and the development of sustainable environmental solutions. His work emphasizes innovative approaches, including bioremediation strategies, circular economy principles, and waste-to-wealth concepts, to address pressing environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. In addition to his academic and research achievements, he is a member of several professional and scientific bodies, reflecting his active engagement with the scientific community.
