16mo red cloth boards with black cover and spine titles and black decoration and coloured stamped fern image to front board; advertorial endpapers; 12 col. plates. Were it not for the separation of the textblock between the frontispiece and the title page this would be in Very Good condition. Boards remain bright with only very slight wear to extremities. Internally fairly crisp and clean with only light age toning. Slight hint of spotting to some plates. Neat, small pencil annotation of a few of the plates with their common name. G. McCulloch (Crieff) bookseller stamp to rear endpaper. Rusty hinges visible at title page. Includes a dried fern specimen tucked inside the Hart’s Tongue Fern page. Overall a fairly well preserved copy of this attractively bound early abridgement.
