Hurst & Son pamphlet with W. Darlington & Sons spore advert slipped inside.
Pamphlet undated but probably C. 1880-1900. Published by Hurst and Son Seed Merchants, the pamphlet gives their address of 152 Houndsditch, London, from which the merchant was trading from 1843 to 1939.
Buff covers with mushroom illustration and decorative fonts and border. Rusty staples, very lightly bumped, a few very small light marks.
The slipped in advert, which promotes their 100% Productive Spawn and includes 3 pages of Instructions on Mushroom Growing, states Darlington & Sons being located at Southcourt road, where the firm moved its main operations in the early 20th century as the Worthing glasshouse and nursery industry expanded. Darlington & Sons was bought by Heinz in the 1980s.
It is lightly bumped and has a few small stains along a crease line from the rusty staples of the pamphlet.
