Both volumes very scarce. 2 Vol. set. Cortinarius i: Myxacium & Phlegmacium, 1955, pp. 1-80; Cortinarius ii: Inoloma & Dermocybe, 1958, pp. 81-148. Both remain crisp and clean internally with some age toning. Spine titles written on by hand. Small surface tear to spine of part i. Some cover soiling to part ii. This series was considered the primary reference for British species of the difficult genus for decades. Orton’s classification modified the older Friesian system based on more thorough examination of the species. Orton inherited material and expertise from his predecessor, A. A. Pearson. While Part III, which would have covered the hygrophanous species (subgenus Telamonia), was planned, it was never completed. Nevertheless, the first two parts were considered the definitive reference on the genus for nearly 50 years.
