China is the home to 20 species of living non-human primates and an equal or larger number of extinct primate species. In this special issue, aspects of the biology of some of China’s unique primate species are presented. The living primates of China are of compelling interest because their evolutionary histories are intimately related to geological and environmental changes of the recent past, and because many of the species are in danger of extinction. It is hoped that ideas presented in this issue will encourage international efforts to study and to assist in the conservation of the unique primate fauna of China.
