As the name implies, this text is designed to take the reader through the entire manufacturing process of hardwood plywood. Because this is a relatively small portion of the total forest products’ industry, there has previously been no one book completely dedicated to this field. Since the product addressed is an aesthetic one, subject to the perception of the observer, the book logically begins by explaining in lay terminology the more common natural characteristics that manifest themselves on a decorative panel surface. Once the book establishes a better understanding of the natural characteristics of the wood for the reader, it addresses the many processes by which hardwood and decorative veneers may be cut and manufactured into full-face form, followed by an explanation of the grading process that determines the value of the face. Subsequent chapters address the various options and attributes for substrate material, followed by an explanation of the hardwood plywood manufacturing process. The last two chapters deal with the complexities of meeting customer expectations and troubleshooting common problems.
